Camryn Moore and Cory Armstrong Obituary, Death – Suspects Die After Gaston County Shooting and Fatal Ohio Police Pursuit
Camryn Moore, 26, and Cory Armstrong, 29, have died following a tragic chain of events that began with a deadly shooting in Gaston County, North Carolina, and ended with a police pursuit and vehicle crash in southern Ohio. Authorities found both individuals dead inside the crashed vehicle Friday after they had been sought in connection with the North Carolina shooting.
The case began Thursday morning when officers responded to a reported shooting at a residence on Forbes Road in Gaston County. Four people were found suffering from gunshot wounds. Two victims died at the scene, while two others were transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and remained in critical but stable condition.
Investigators identified Moore and Armstrong as suspects in the shooting. Authorities said both were associated with the Forbes Road residence and had left the area following the incident. Arrest warrants were obtained charging each with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
A multi-state search was launched with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force. Investigators tracked the pair across state lines as authorities worked to locate them.
The search eventually led law enforcement to Ohio. On Friday morning, the Ohio State Highway Patrol located the vehicle associated with the suspects outside Athens. Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not stop, leading to a pursuit through multiple counties.
The pursuit lasted more than 20 minutes before authorities attempted to use a tire-deflation device. The vehicle swerved to avoid the device, struck a road sign and came to a stop near Hiram West Road in Jackson County.
Following the crash, troopers reported hearing two gunshots from inside the vehicle. Authorities subsequently used a drone to inspect the vehicle before approaching. Moore and Armstrong were then found deceased inside with gunshot wounds. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said no shots were fired by law enforcement and no other injuries were reported during the pursuit.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths of Moore and Armstrong remain under investigation. Authorities have not publicly determined who fired the shots, while the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues examining the pursuit, crash and deaths.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the original Gaston County shooting remains active. Authorities are continuing to work to establish what led to the violence that left multiple people dead or critically injured.
