Quando Rondo Obituary, Death – Lil Durk Found Not Guilty in Quando Rondo Murder-for-Hire Case After Los Angeles Jury Deliberations
Lil Durk has been found not guilty of all federal charges in the high-profile murder-for-hire case involving an alleged plot to kill fellow rapper Quando Rondo. A federal jury in Los Angeles returned the verdict Friday after three days of deliberations.
Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, had been accused by federal prosecutors of orchestrating a 2022 attack targeting Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman. Prosecutors alleged that the planned shooting was carried out as retaliation for the 2020 killing of Durk’s close friend and fellow rapper King Von.
The alleged attack took place near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles on August 19, 2022. Prosecutors said the intended target was Quando Rondo, but the shooting instead resulted in the death of his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson.
During the trial, prosecutors argued that Banks helped arrange and finance the operation. The defense strongly disputed those allegations, maintaining that Durk was not responsible for organizing the attack.
Defense attorneys also pointed to Banks’ former assistant, Kavon Grant, arguing that Grant was responsible for arranging the intended killing and that the government’s cooperating witnesses had reasons to place responsibility on the rapper.
After considering the evidence, jurors rejected the federal government’s case against Banks. He was acquitted of the charges connected to the alleged murder-for-hire plot, including conspiracy, stalking resulting in death and murder-for-hire allegations.
Durk’s co-defendants, Deandre Wilson and David Lindsey, were also acquitted of the murder-for-hire allegations but were convicted on certain stalking-related charges.
Despite the major victory, Banks remains in federal custody because he is facing a separate federal case involving racketeering, murder and firearms-related allegations. His legal battle is therefore not over despite Friday’s complete acquittal in the Quando Rondo case.
The case attracted considerable attention from the hip-hop community, with fans and prominent figures following the proceedings in Los Angeles. Supporters gathered outside the courthouse after the verdict as news of Durk’s acquittal spread.
For Lil Durk, the verdict represents a significant legal victory in a case that had carried the possibility of a life sentence if he had been convicted. His separate federal proceedings are expected to determine the next stage of his legal situation.
